The Union Government on Friday informed the Parliament that there is no provision for according special status to any State any more.
This comes at a time when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has renewed his long-standing demand for special category status to Bihar, ahead on the Assembly elections.
Responding to repeated demands in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour, Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh said there is no policy anymore for according special category status to any State.
"What can be done instead is provide special economic packages," he said.
